Rendimiento del AdvMame, tantos recursos chupa?

Buenas tardes.

Tengo un PC cutrillo en la maca, un Pentium III 500 con 300 y pico megas de memoria y una Geforce2. Aún y así, con un Windows 98 + PowerStrip y Mame32, la mayoría de juegos normales van bien. El problema es que con el PowerStrip la pantalla tiene un tembleque bastante molesto, así que ayer probé el advMame y... voilà! se ve de vicio! ni un solo tembleque, imagen perfecta. Y entonces pongo el Karate Champ y cual es mi sorpresa al ver que la musica distorsiona un monton, ñieooouuuuu, como cuando le falta CPU. Pruebo otros juegos y veo que la mayoria lo hacen, aunque sean juegos muy sencillos..

Tantos recursos chupa el AdvMame? o es que me dejo alguna opción de configuración?

Mi consejo...utiliza el Advmame en DOS puro.
Si lo haces bajo win98.......la musica se tara...además de chupar recursos propios de win.
A mi me vá al pelo.

Cuando dices DOS a pelo, quieres decir Windows sin gui? o realmente un DOS puro y duro? (Version 6.2 fue la ultima no?)

Bueno,

pues he probado el Windows 98SE sin GUI, o sea poniendo la opción BootGUI=0 en el MSDOS.SYS, y con los drivers de la SoundBlaster a pelo en el autoexec.bat (una Vibra 128 PCI).

El incremento del rendimiento ha sido notable. Ahora casi todos los juegos normalitos rulan sin problemas en el audio. Pero de vez en cuando aún desafina ocasionalmente en juegos de requerimientos gráficos considerables. Me parece increible que un Pentium III 500 no tenga suficiente procesador para rular sin problemas un Street Fighter 2 o un Pac-mania, por mucho AdvanceMAME que sea...

Puedes usar tanto win sin gui...así lo uso yo....tengo el Autoexec.bat editado de tal manera que no me carga win...sólo los drivers de sonido, mouse, el cswdpmi y yá está....luego me aparece un mini-mini-mini menú...con 2 opciones:
1 cargar el Advmenu...(con el advmame)
2 cargar win98
Y ya está.
Si al cabo del rato..(unos 10 seg.no se ha elegido nada...carga por defecto el Advmame....y al salir del mismo, vuelves a Dos....con lo que siempre apago la máquina a saco.

P.D.: Creo que la última versión fué la 7.0 o 7.1 de ms-dos.

La versión 7.0 de msdos juraría que ya no era independiente, sino que venía con windows. De todas maneras, que PC usas tú? no tienes ningún problema de rendimiento? Ni con los Metal Slugs?

No obstante, a medida que avanzan de versión...se requiere más PC, con lo que es preferible que te bajes una versión por probar...no sé...la 0.67 y la pruebes con el mismo juego.....fijo que te irá más rápido.
Lo del tema del sonido...eso es algo de la configuración del Advmame.rc...fijo.
También estarí bien dar un vistazo a tu autoexec.bat...para cerciorar de que tienes los extensores de memoria (cswdpmi bien cargados).

P.D.: También si te es más fácil copiar el Advmame.rc en este hilo...y lo miro aquí mismo...mejor.

Hombre...mi pC es un poco más bicho que el tuyo....PIV 1.5 ghz, 512Mb de Ram....pero el que tiene mi hermano, es un p3 a 800 y le tira bien al Advmame...(y eso que se lo instalé el de win...que es muchídimo más lento)
No obstante...a ver si reparo un PC que tengo tirao por casa...que creo que es un P3 a 500 o 600...(no estoy seguro)...y le instalo el Advmame bajo Dos.
(En esto tardaré...ya que o tengo ni idea del fallo...creo que es la alimentación...y ahora nado más liado que la pata un romano... )

Otra cosa a tener en cuenta: mira a ver qué modo de video te está generando (en el menú video te pone la resolución horizontal y un numerito que dice si está reescalando o no).

Si tiene que reescalar la imagen para que salga en el modo gráfico que le hayas puesto, vas a tener problemas. Al ser en DOS puro, no usa ninguna característica "avanzada" de la tarjeta gráfica, y se hace el reescalado por software.

Pues debe reescalar la mayoría, porqué todos ocupan toda la pantalla (manteniendo el aspect ratio, claro). Pero lo que es seguro es que el rendimiento es mejor en DOS que en windows, por mucho que windows use las DirectX.

Por cierto, hay algunos juegos (como el Thunder&Lightning), que no caben en la pantalla, y he probado de ponerles todos los modos de video posibles de reescalado que ofrece el AdvMAME, pero con ninguno cabe del todo...

I-node, nen!! que el thunder&lighting es vertical!!!
Por más que busques una resolución ajustada en horizontal, no la encontrarás.
Otra solución sería ponerle al Advmame.rc la siguiente linea:
vertical/display_rol yes

De esta manera, todos los juegos verticales te los rotará hacia la izquierda...(si lo quieres a la derecha la linea es: vertical/display_ror yes )
Haz la prueba, verás como todos te ocupan la pantalla completa con el aspect ratio al 100%.
Otra cosa, si lo tienes por Ms-dos puro...una vez ya hayas configurado el advcfg.exe y tengas los modelines de tu monitor....(es decir el pclock/hclock/vclock......en la linea que pone:
display_adjust_generate
la dejas así:
display_adjust_generate clocky

Así siempre te generará los modos de video a la velocidad vertical correcta.

Lo he puesto todo porque no se las partes que son importantes o no de cara al rendimiento.

Bueno, pués eso es todo... Si me lo solucionas te invito a unas birras xDDD Aunque igual es un tema de falta de CPU y no hay nada que hacerle, pero por intentar que no quede...

Bueno I-node, aquí te dejo tu advmame.rc...(que creo que lo pegaste directamente del mio.....)modificado.
Te explico los cambios.
Te he suprimido los modos INTERLACE, tanto de las modelines como de la opción que te lo habilita.
Supongo que usas un Monitor Arcade, no obstante, dime exactamente el modelo de tu monitor...o TV o lo que sea...por si es necesario cambiar algo las modelines...(esto es sumamente importante).
También te sugiero, que re-configures todos los botones de tu máquina, ya que veo que son mis controles.....y tal vez algunos juegos o te funcionen correctamente.
Por lo demás, he subido medio punto la latencia del sonido, y te he colocado el modo de generación de video, para que siempre vayan los juegos a su velocidad vertical real.....(manteniendo su resolución original siempre que se pueda).

Tanto el Autoexec.bat como el Config.sys , los veo correctos, aunque les he añadido un par de cosillas.
Otra cosa, ¿¿¿ tienes copiado el CWSDPMI.exe en el directorio del advmame ??? Sino lo tienes así, copialo en ese directorio también.....a veces mejora el rendimiento.

P.D: Antes de hacer modificaciones en los autoexec y config....te sugiero que te guardes una copia de los tuyos..(que son los que sabes que funcionan)...y una vez realizado esto.....modifiques el autoexec.bat.......le pongas otro nombre...y lo ejecutes en ventana....para ver que todo funciona correctamente en tu ordenador.
Lo mismo para el Advmame.rc......y a ver si me puedes decir el modelo de monitor/tv que usas.
P.D.2: En el Advmame.rc.....acuerdate de quitar los asteriscos y los titulos que he puesto..
